Bathroom case study
A dated bathroom has been given a new lease of life with modern fittings and a light airy feel.
Dark brown tiles, out dated furniture and bad planning in the bathroom let down the rest of the 1990s built house that Jon and Caroline worked so hard on. "It really was not practical," explains Jon. "We knew that a much better space, somewhere that we could indulge and relax in was feasible, we just needed a bit of help to pull it all together."
Seeking inspiration, the couple contacted The Myers Touch and they worked along with the couple to create a striking and contemporary bathing area. "We wanted a modern look but not ultra-modern," he continues. "We also had in mind where we wanted everything but wanted their designers to come up with ideas that would reflect both us and our lifestyles but also giving it relaxed feel."
The existing suite and tiles were ripped out and much of the plumbing changed round to make the way the room worked far more practical. One of the few requisites by the couple was to have twin sinks and interior designer Liz, sourced two large square styled basins that are striking in their simplicity. A big bath to luxuriate in was also essential, as was a large walk in shower. "without changing the room layout, there was no way we could fit everything, Jon continues, "but, careful planning meant that absolutely everything we wanted could be accommodated."
The contemporary styling has not been restricted to the suite; The Myers Touch came up with a set of bespoke doors to segregate areas of the room. With a slightly Eastern feel, the glass is opaque, giving privacy should the room be in use by more than one person and the use of the glass stops the room from feeling closed in. A discreet lighting design above the bath adds to the easy but contemporary feel of the room.
Once the sanitaryware was in place, Liz helped with the final touches, using crisp clean colours to maximise light and accentuate the
stylish suite. Accent colours of red add to the oriental feel of the room and give a wonderful contrast to the pale scheme.
"We chose the Myers Touch as we just felt so comfortable with way discussions progressed," explains Jon. "We didn't want to employ a designer as such and previous experience with builders led us to believe that you do not get any actual design input from them. The Myers Touch offered us the best solution, sensitivity to design with the practical skills to do a good job." The finished result has certainly given both designers and clients a bathroom to be proud of.
