Grand Designs Live - Keith’s Trip
The ExCeL London played host to the annual Grand Designs Live event recently [5-13 May]. Owner, Keith Myers, was at the event as part of the Ask An Expert panel and lectured on ‘Creating Kitchens With Light, Space & Laughter’.
Ask An Expert
As part of the Expert panel, Keith had 30-minute design chats with people looking at a varied scope and range for their renovations. This was done alongside other architects and designers, and Keith said of the experience: “It was amazing to get such a vast range of projects to give ideas on, from people all around the UK. I was particularly pleased to see the amount of young people and couples there who were hoping to use kitchen design to make more efficient use of their space.”
Creating Kitchens With Light, Space & Laughter
The whole premise for the lecture, which took place on the Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, was to show people the right way to approach design. Planning and designing are two different subjects of the same goal but there is a real art to the latter.
It was great to see a full crowd at the lectures, particularly on the busier, weekend days, and there were lots of interesting questions to answer at the end. Many said they loved the passion and how this was an untouched subject in many ways.
Keith’s Favourite Part
“It always gives me great pleasure to speak to people with an interest in kitchen design, particularly younger people. So, when my last appointment was with a couple who had a nine-year-old daughter interested in becoming an architect, I couldn’t help but offer some advice.
“I even gave her one of our special scale rule and some homework! This was to go and measure off, to scale, the kitchen. Hopefully, that’s a future kitchen
designer in the making.”
