Is it Worth Paying for a Kitchen Design?

05 August 2021

When guest speaking at Grand Designs Live 2019 at London’s ExCel centre, Keith had the pleasure of meeting a wonderful couple from Hastings who stumbled upon his talk on Creating Kitchen with Light Space and Laughter whilst looking for inspiration at the show for their new extension.

Caroline and Nick have lived in their home since their children (who have long flown the nest) were small, and in that time, they had never evolved the interior of their home into a space they could truly enjoy, despite really liking the area they lived in.

They had received a kitchen plan from another company who offered free design and had never considered paying for a kitchen design, but they really liked our philosophy to design and approached it as a weekend treat away and came down to our Winchester kitchen showroom to discover more.

We discovered they had a contemporary kitchen style that they wanted to reflect in their new kitchen through our discussions and had seen their dream kitchen on Channel 4’s Grand Designs House of the Year show earlier that year. It was only when Keith was showing examples of our design work in our showroom where they realised it was actually one of our kitchens in that house they had seen on TV a few months previously!

We made a few minor alterations to the architecture of their space to make it work exclusively for them and included a secret bookcase area incorporated into the build down above the kitchen island which they fell in love with.

We also created a link window into the lounge area that opened up space and allowed the outdoor area to flow into the room using reflected glass. The window was positioned opposite the kitchen island with cushioned seating to admire their newly landscaped garden.

The final results are stunning, and Caroline and Nick are thrilled.

There is plenty of room for everyone in this new bespoke space, and on family visits, the flow directs them away from the Chef's area so as not to get in each other's way.

They especially enjoy every meal prepared and shared in their new kitchen which now feels like a special occasion. They often have to pinch themselves to realise their Grand design is real!
